Galerie DREI - A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron Cédric Eisenring
A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron Cédric Eisenring
For the exhibition A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron at Galerie DREI in Cologne, we worked closely with Cédric Eisenring in a collaboration marked by a deep mutual understanding of materiality, art, craftsmanship, and tradition. In close coordination, we developed understated frame designs with high-quality finishes – each tone precisely matched to the respective artwork. Every detail was carefully considered. Nothing was added, nothing taken away – and yet the framing remains present. This principle was central and was thoughtfully developed together with Cédric.
Cédric Eisenring (b. 1983 in Basel, Switzerland) lives and works in Zurich. He is a versatile artist working in the field of Postwar & Contemporary art, known for combining traditional printmaking techniques such as photogravure, drypoint, and heliogravure with digital processes. His practice spans photography, printmaking, and site-specific installations, often incorporating lithographic motifs on fabric—such as velvet surfaces—creating a subtle tension between material presence and illusionistic narration.
Eisenring studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (BA 2009, MA 2014). He has been awarded the Swiss Art Award (2017) and the Manor Art Award (2018). He gained international recognition through exhibitions such as Signal to Noise(2019) and Superdream (2021) at Galerie DREI (Cologne), Puder (Stadtgalerie Bern, 2024), and most recently his solo exhibition A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron (May 2025), also at DREI.
